About Fig
Fig Financial is Canada’s first digital lender dedicated to simplifying the borrowing process for prime Canadians. Fig is a Private-Equity and Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan-backed digital lending startup that provides Canadians with loan approvals in just 10 seconds and enables them to complete the entire application in under 10 minutes, in stark contrast to the days or even weeks it takes at traditional banks. As a result, Fig has grown to a $200MM portfolio within just two years of operation, and continues to expand rapidly.
The Role
Fig is seeking an experienced, collaborative, detail-oriented, and solutions-driven Fraud Operations Analyst. In this role, you’ll directly help detect and prevent financial crime (fraud and AML) in a fast-paced, innovative environment where your work has a visible impact.
Reporting to the Manager, Fraud & AML, you will be monitoring and reviewing alerts, and investigating suspicious activity. You’ll minimize fraud losses, enhance recovery efforts, and protect clients from the devastating impacts of scams—while enabling seamless customer experiences. You’ll partner closely with cross-functional teams (CX, Operations, Product) and coordinate with external stakeholders (e.g., vendors, borrowers) to resolve cases and strengthen controls. This role is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys problem-solving, thrives in a collaborative startup setting, and wants to deliver measurable results.

What you'll do

  • Monitor & analyze applications, customer accounts, and transactions to detect suspicious, fraudulent, or scam activity; leverage detection tools, rules, and analytics to surface anomalies and proactively identify potential victims for timely intervention.
  • Triage and disposition alerts per SOPs; escalate complex cases and take appropriate actions (e.g., holds/blocks, step-up verification) to protect clients and minimize losses.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Risk, Customer Experience, Legal & Compliance, Product, and Engineering, and coordinate with external stakeholders (e.g., clients, vendors) to resolve cases and strengthen controls.
  • Document thoroughly: prepare clear, audit-ready case reports with findings and recommended actions; maintain accurate, organized investigation records in the case-management system.
  • AML support: investigate flagged accounts and unusual activity; prepare accurate reports of findings in accordance with Fig procedures and applicable KYC/AML/ATF requirements.
  • Stay current on emerging fraud/scam typologies and industry best practices; contribute to updating playbooks, SOPs, and training materials.
  • Drive improvement: identify and propose AI- and data-driven opportunities (e.g., rule tuning, automation, model/feature ideas) to enhance fraud detection, reduce false positives, and streamline Fraud and AML operations.

What you'll bring

  • 2–5 years in fraud investigations or operations within a financial services or fintech environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail with audit-ready documentation; accurately investigates and records findings.
  • Clear, professional communication (written and verbal); able to distill complex cases for different stakeholders.
  • Bias to action with a can-do attitude—comfortable balancing standardized SOP-driven tasks and ad-hoc projects.
  • Strong collaborator who works effectively across teams and contributes to a supportive, inclusive environment.
  • Excellent time management and organization; meets SLAs, manages multiple cases, and hits deadlines.
  • Growth mindset; eager to learn new tools and improve processes.
  • AI Proficiency: Familiarity / willingness to expand expertise in leveraging AI tools and solutions to support analytics, automation, and experimentation.

What'd be nice to have?

  • Bilingual (French & English).
